A carved ivory group of a Japanese ceremonial cart
A fantastic and unusual carved ivory group depicting a gigantic pagoda like ceremonial cart being drawn and attended by devotees. This group is of remarkable quality with the decorative pattern on the base continued on the underside were is carved a red coloured seal like signature, used only on carvings of the highest quality.
Japanese circa 1880.
Dimensions 45 cm high, the base 51 cm by 24 cm.
